Linda

Linda Peritz, PhD
Executive Director

Linda Peritz is the Executive Director of the Centre for Health Care Management.  Her role involves facilitating research partnerships to create evidence for health care management, offering knowledge exchange events to share evidence and understanding, and developing educational programs to teach management skills.  Her previous roles include the Associate Director of Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute and the creation and coordination of the Research Education Program at VCHA.  She holds a PhD in molecular biology from University of Toronto, a certificate in adult education from University of Victoria and is currently pursuing a certificate in dialogue, deliberation and public engagement from Fielding Graduate University.

Martin L. Puterman, PhD

Director of Research

Martin L. Puterman is Advisory Board Professor of Operations in UBC’s Sauder School of Business and Director of Research for the Centre for Health Care Management. He founded and directed the Centre for Operations Excellence and the Biostatistical Consulting Service at BC Children’s Hospital. He has consulted widely on health care operations, inventory control, forecasting and operations management.

He is the recipeint of the prestigious 1995 Lanchester Prize from INFORMS for his book Markov Decision Processes. He also received the CORS Practice Prize in 2002 for his work on detection of high risk claims at the Workers Compensation Board of British Columbia and the 2003 INFORMS case prize for his case on forecasting and staff scheduling for the Whistler-Blackcomb Ski School. He has served on the editorial boards of Mathematics of Operations Research, Operations Research, Management Science and The Journal of the American Statistical Association.

Director of Education

Robert (Bob) Smith is Adjunct Professor, Sauder School of Business and Director of Education for the Centre for Health Care Management and President of Perform Management Consulting Inc.

He is the former President and CEO of the Fraser Health Authority. He has also served as President and CEO of the Capital District Health Authority in Halifax, Nova Scotia, President and CEO of Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC, Deputy Director of the BC Cancer Agency, and Executive Director of the Arthritis Society in BC. In addition he served as Vice President of the Stentor Innovation Centre developing telecommunications applications for health services.

Bob has served in numerous health leadership roles provincially and nationally, including Chair of the Canadian Hospital Association, Chair of the BC Health Association, Director of the Association of Canadian Academic Health Organizations, and Director of the Health Administrators Association of BC. He is a founding Director of the Canadian Telehealth Society and currently a Director of the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation. He most recently served as Director of the Canadian Stroke Network, Ottawa; Director of the Canadian Healthcare Association, Ottawa; Director of Continental Home Health Care Inc., Los Angeles; Saint Elizabeth Health Care, Toronto; and as Co-Chair of the Health Division of the United Way Campaign Cabinet of the Lower Mainland. He is a Surveyor for Accreditation Canada.

He has conducted extensive health systems reviews for government, and served in official capacities on their behalf to examine and resolve issues in health systems and school system management and governance.

Bob received his B. Comm. and MBA from the University of British Columbia. He holds diplomas from the Executive Development Program at Queen’s University and the Banff Executive Development Program.

He is a Fellow in the Canadian College of Health Service Executives and a member of the Health Care Leaders Association of BC.

Ida Goodreau
Adjunct Professor
Director of Strategy

Ida Goodreau is Adjunct Professor, Sauder School of Business and Director of Strategy for the Centre for Health Care Management.

Ida has extensive executive experience in both the public and private sectors. From 2002 to 2009, she was the Chief Executive Officer of Vancouver Coastal Health, one of the largest health care organizations in the country, responsible for delivering health services to over 1.1 million people. She has also held senior positions in the forest sector (Fletcher Challenge, Norske Skog) and natural gas (Union Gas).

Ida sits on a number of corporate and non-profit boards including Vancouver Foundation, Genome BC, Canada West Foundation, Justice Institute Foundation, Women’s Leadership Circle, as well as Fortis Inc, and Terasen/Fortis BC. She is a former Director of the Vancouver Board of Trade and Shell Canada.

Ida has been selected as one of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women three times, has been chosen as the 2009 Consumer Choice Awards Vancouver Business Woman of the Year, and received a Business in Vancouver Influential Women in Business award in 2010.
