Sauder Graduates its First Executive MBA in Health Care Class

The first Executive MBA in Health Care degrees were conferred at UBC on Thursday, November 26, 2009.  Eighteen students from the pioneering cohort of the EMBA program received their degrees and enjoyed a celebratory lunch afterward.  Sauder School of Business Dean Dan Muzyka spoke to the group, congratulating them on their hard work and perseverance, and emphasized that their role as graduates is to be leaders in the health care system.

Students in the EMBA participate in the integrated core curriculum, which emphasizes business fundamentals such as accounting, finance, economics, strategy, marketing, information technology, operations and organizational behaviour.  They follow that with specialized and elective courses that build on these fundamentals and they complete the program by undertaking a major project relevant to an organizational problem, either with their employer or with another organization.

Twenty-three students are entering their second year in the 21-month long program, and a new class will begin their studies in January.

The Centre for Health Care Management delivers the Executive MBA in Health Care on behalf of the Sauder School of Business. This education program represents one of the three core activities of the Centre, which include research partnerships and knowledge translation, that produce value for UBC, the health care industry and the people of British Columbia.
